About Us
We're Soup House -- a community food organization based in Saint Louis, Missouri. We cook for our neighbors and support partner organizations that do good work across the city. We're building toward a gathering place of our own where good food is always within reach. We started Soup House because we believe people are better at taking care of each other than the world gives them credit for. Good food doesn't require profit. Meals made and eaten together are the root of what brings us together. A neighborhood gets stronger when its people figure things out side by side.
Soup House grew out of years of informal food work in Saint Louis. Community meals. Food distribution. Kitchen-table conversations. Every event drove us toward the same conclusion -- people wanted to gather. People wanted to feed each other. People wanted a place where no one had to prove they deserved a seat at the table. In 2026, we incorporated as a Missouri nonprofit and were recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. The organization is new, but the work isn't. We've been making good food around the city for a long time.
Everybody should have good food. Nobody should be looked down upon for being hungry. At Soup House, you don't need to fill out a form with your name and zip code. You just grab a plate and sit down at our table. We know it sucks to end the day on an empty stomach. And we know that sometimes, even when there's food at home, it's nice to have company. We'd like to make good food and enjoy it together at the same table. Community is made of people doing things together. A neighborhood working together becomes something greater than its parts.
Soup House works in three ways. We host our own community meals and events. We support partner organizations by providing food and logistical help for their gatherings. And we're working toward a permanent space — a gathering space and kitchen where good food of some kind is always available. We're an all-volunteer organization governed by a board of seven Saint Louisians. We operate on a modest budget by design. It doesn't cost much to make good food, but the more we have, the more we can make.
